I have no external midi hardware attached to the MBox 2 Pro (in or out).Īlso, here’s something really weird, which I couldn’t find ANYWHERE on google. My ‘Midi Input Devices’ list in Tools only gives me the MBox 2 Pro Midi option to select. I don’t even know what that is, cause most things I’ve read tend to describe it as ‘old’ software, dating back to earlier versions of windows, so why is it popping up as a midi output option in the latest version of Tools running on XP SP3? The ONLY midi output option I have in Tools (apart from if I use an instrument track) is: Microsoft Midi Mapper which produces no sound regardless of channel selected (1-16).
I can see it/select it/use it as an output in other multi-track DAW’s (which playback through my MBox 2 Pro hardware).

Windows Media Player will use it to play midi files no worries. It’s my default ‘midi playback’ in my Sounds & Audio Devices Properties in Windows XP SP3 (the volume is turned up and it’s not muted).

It works (as in the software works with other programmes). Yes, I know it sucks, and it’s a budget soft synth. My problem: I cannot choose/select “Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth” as an output for a midi track in Pro Tools LE 8.0.1 (or 8.0 for that matter). Ok, I've spent hours and hours on this, scouring google and various forums, reading help/pdf files etc etc, but there doesn’t seem to be anything definitive on this.
